Privacy Policy

SpeakSpend is a mobile personal finance app for iOS and Android. It helps users record expenses, income, transfers, accounts, balances, categories, notes, and related summaries. This Privacy Policy explains what data SpeakSpend collects, how it is used, how it is protected, and how users can request deletion.

Information SpeakSpend Collects
Depending on how you use the app, SpeakSpend may collect and store:
- Account information: email address, authentication identifiers, first name, last name, and profile preferences.
- Financial tracking data: account names, account types, account colors, balances, expenses, income entries, transfers, categories, merchants, notes, dates, times, and app currency.
- Voice entry data: audio submitted when you choose to use the microphone, temporary transcripts, parsed draft details, and voice usage counters.
- Device and technical data: app version, platform, network or sync state, error information, and security or operational logs needed to run and protect the service.
- Support data: messages and details you send when contacting support.
How SpeakSpend Uses Data
SpeakSpend uses data to:
- Create and secure your account.
- Save, sync, display, edit, delete, and export your financial records.
- Calculate balances, spending summaries, charts, statistics, and recent activity.
- Turn user-requested voice recordings into editable transaction drafts.
- Apply voice usage limits and prevent abuse of backend services.
- Provide support, account deletion, troubleshooting, security, and service maintenance.
Voice And Microphone Use
Microphone access is requested only when you start a voice entry. Manual account, expense, income, transfer, category, and export features can be used without microphone access.
When you use voice entry, the audio is sent to backend processing to transcribe and parse what you said into an editable draft. SpeakSpend does not silently save voice results. You review the draft before saving it as a record.
SpeakSpend is designed not to store raw microphone recordings as permanent user records by default. Transcripts and parsed text may be processed temporarily to create the draft and operate voice usage limits.
Storage And Service Providers
SpeakSpend uses Supabase for authentication, database storage, Row Level Security, and backend functions. Financial records are stored in Supabase Postgres and scoped to the signed-in user account.
OpenAI may be used by Supabase Edge Functions for speech-to-text and transaction parsing. OpenAI API keys are kept server-side and are not stored in the mobile app.
Apple App Store and Google Play may process account, purchase, diagnostic, and platform data according to their own policies when users install or interact with the app through those platforms.
Data Sharing
SpeakSpend does not sell personal financial data. Data may be processed by service providers only as needed to operate the app, including Supabase, OpenAI, Apple, Google, email providers, and hosting providers. These providers process data according to their own service terms and privacy practices.
Security
SpeakSpend uses authentication, secure local session storage on supported devices, Supabase Row Level Security, and server-side API keys for protected backend operations. No internet service can guarantee perfect security. Users should protect access to their device and email account and should sign out on shared devices.
Offline Use And Sync
SpeakSpend may store manual ledger changes locally on your device when offline and sync them after your internet connection returns. Voice entry requires an internet connection because transcription and parsing happen on backend services.
Currency
SpeakSpend MVP uses one app currency selected during onboarding. The base app currency is locked after the first account or transaction so records, statistics, balances, and exports stay consistent.
Data Export
Users can export records from the Records screen as CSV files. CSV exports may contain account names, categories, merchants, notes, dates, times, and amounts.
Retention And Deletion
SpeakSpend keeps user account and financial tracking data while the account is active or as needed to provide the service. Self-serve account deletion is available in the app from Account & Settings. Users may also review deletion instructions at speakspend.com/account-deletion.
Deleting your account removes your SpeakSpend auth account and associated app data, including profile, accounts, expenses, income, transfers, custom categories, and usage events. Some technical backups, security logs, app store records, or provider logs may remain temporarily where required for security, fraud prevention, legal, or operational reasons.
Children's Privacy
SpeakSpend is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes To This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated as SpeakSpend changes. The effective date will be updated when material changes are published.
